Grant
Parish is served by Volunteer Fire Departments, established
by Districts. Each volunteer fire department has a district chief, station
chiefs and is overseen by a fire district board. In addition, all but one
fire department is a subdivision of the Grant Parish Police Jury. The Town
of Montgomery operates its own fire department. For emergency purposes, any
fire district can be notified by contacting the parish’s Emergency 9-1-1
system, or by calling the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department at (318)
627-3261.

New to the parish in 2002 is the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) equipment.
All district fire departments and the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office
have AED equipment and trained operators. The American Heart Association and
Rapides Foundation donated the AEDs to the parish agencies.

Grant
Parish has a new health network called the Grant Life Enhancement Network.
It's focus to educate the public of the available options
for health care and presicriptions.
Local partners include the Chamber, the Police Jury, the Library, the
Council on Aging, North Centrala,
the School Board, the Ward Seven Hospital District, and the J.W. Gaines
Action Team.

The Grant Parish Permit Office is the agency responsible
for issuing all FEMA-required Flood Plain permits that must be obtained prior
to residential or commercial construction in Grant Parish. The Permit Officer,
Bobby Meeker (318) 627-4101, is also the Emergency Planning Coordinator for
Grant Parish.
Grant
Parish does not currently have parish-wide zoning laws, but does have Mobile
Home Park regulations and Subdivision regulations that govern the development
of subdivisions and mobile home parks in Grant Parish. The Grant Parish Planning
Commission is the agency responsible for approving such developments. The
eight-member commission is appointed by the Grant Parish Police Jury and meets
monthly. The planning commission can be contacted through the Grant Parish
